Welcome to 2015!

I hope everyone had a nice break.  I enjoyed spending time with my family and I know Tyrion enjoyed all the long runs I got to take him on.  Now, it's back to work and fun in Room 110!  Here is what we are learning this week:

Language Arts:  We are starting Unit 5 in our Reading Series.  For the next 3 weeks, the comprehension skills will be on using clues to make inferences and making text to self connections when reading stories.  Next week in writing, the students will be working on using "chunks" to spell and on writing a variety of sentences.

Math:  This week starts our week on ordinal numbers.  The focus will be on recognizing the place of an object and using an ordinal number to describe it.  The goal is for students to recognize 1st through 10th in various ways (top to bottom, bottom to top, left to right, right to left). This week, we will be working on 1st through 5th.

Social Studies:  Our unit on maps starts this week.  Students will be learning about maps and how to use them.  The vocabulary for this unit includes the words:  symbols, above, map, and place.

Notes:  Next Monday is Paper Airplane Night.  Mark your calendars!
