December: Here we come!

Wow!  I can't believe it's December already and we only have 3 weeks until Winter Break.  That being said, there is still a lot of fun and learning we are going to be doing the next 3 weeks in Kindergarten.  Here is a preview for next week:

Language Arts:  We will start Unit 4 in the reading series.  The comprehension focus for this unit is on story elements (character, plot, setting).  The strategy focus is on synthesizing (thinking and learning while reading) and summarizing.  When reading baggie books this month, have discussions with your child on the characters, problem, solution, or setting of the story.  This helps to reinforce what we are learning in class.

Math:  Our next unit of study is on comparing numbers using the terms more, less, and the same.  I will also be reviewing proper numeral formation.  Many students are still writing their numbers backwards or are struggling with those tricky teens (13, 14, 15).   We will also start a project using our geometry skills.  Students will be working on designing and then creating a gingerbread house.  Check back for updates on this project!

Science:  We will be staring our unit on matter.  The focus this week is on describing an object based on its position (left, right, above, below, etc.)  The gingerbread man will be helping us with this.

Notes:  Mark your calendars.  Chik-Fil-A night will be next Tuesday, December 9.
