Welcome to October!

I hope everyone got to get out and enjoy the fabulous weather this weekend!  There's a lot going on next week, so here we go...

Language Arts:  Students are now beginning to learn sight words to use when reading and writing.  This week all students will be learning how to read and write is and the.  In reading our focus skill will be on fluency and learning what good reading sounds like.  In writing, students will learn about leaving space between words and will continue to practice using letter sounds when writing.

Math:  This week students will be learning all about patterns.  Students will learn to make patterns and read them.  We will also be making some "noisy" patterns.  This week, students will also begin to start having "number talks" and will be using their math journal to practice writing numbers in different ways.

Social Studies:  We have started on unit on past and present.  The students really enjoyed learning about "old schools" last week and will get to make horn books this week.  We are also making soap and sorting "old toys" and "new toys" to learn more about daily life in the past.

Notes:  Picture Day is Thursday.  Also, if the students have anything from the "past", they may bring it in to share with the class.  In the past years (ha, ha), I have had students bring in old telephones and old clothes.  The kids get a big kick out of seeing all the different items and how different they are from today.
