Fingers Crossed!

Hopefully, we won't get too much snow!  Here's what's going on in 4th grade this week:

Reading:  We will be doing a review on text features in non-fiction books.  We will also be reviewing prefixes, suffixes, and root words.  In writing, students will be learning about how to paraphrase their topic and conclusion sentences, so all their sentences don't all sound the same.  There will be word work and  a comprehension quiz and spelling test on Thursday as usual.  This week's homework focus will be on writing.

Math:  This week's objectives are finding the Greatest Common Factor and Least Common Multiple of 3 numbers.  Students will also be learning about equivalent fractions.  I have links to tutorials on my edline page should your student get stuck on their homework. With equivalent fractions, it is also okay to use fraction bars or another visual to help with  homework.  Knowing how to create or use pictures of equivalent fractions is a great tool to have.

Science:  It's Electric!  We are starting a 2 week unit on electricity.  Students will chose their "Electricity Teams" on Monday and will be working towards learning enough about electricity, so that they can create an electronic gameboard (like Operation) on March 14.  We have some really fun experiments coming up, so be sure to check back for pictures of the teams hard at work.  Also, for additional learning and fun, students may check out my edline page for links on electricity.

Notes:  Picture Day is on Wednesday. Students will be taking individual and a class picture.  I am also  in need of D Batteries for our game board project, if you care to donate.
