April 21-25

We are rolling along and the students are getting adjusted to being back in school.  SOL's are less than a month and we have a lot of reviewing to do!  Here's what we're learning about this week:

Language Arts:  This week we will be reviewing author's purpose.  Students are also finishing up their essays on a special event they had to prepare for.  This essay will be a test grade and is due Friday.  There will also be word work and a spelling test this week.
Social Studies:  We will finish up our unit on Reconstruction this week.  There will be a test on the Civil War and Reconstruction on Tuesday.
Math:  This week's focus is on the measurement of length.  Students are expected to memorize measurement equivalencies:  100cm=1m, 10mm=1cm, 3ft=1yd, 12in=1ft.  Students are also expected to memorize mass equivalencies:  16oz=1lb, 2000lb=1T, 1000g=1kg.  This week should be fun as we are measuing giant shapes on the floor and various other things.  Last week, we measured the mass of Sally.  Maybe we should measure her length this week!
Science:  The living systems unit will start on Thursday.  Check out my edline page for websites to get started for this unit.
Notes:  We NEED pencils!
